Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday said “no consultations” were possible with Kyiv over transfer of the imprisoned former President Mikheil Saakashvili, and added the Ukrainian Government’s move earlier this week to send the Georgian Ambassador back to Tbilisi for discussions on the matter were “regrettable and insulting”.
Georgian Justice Minister Rati Bregadze on Tuesday called on imprisoned former President Mikheil Saakashvili and “people who are sincerely concerned with his recovery” to follow doctors’ recommendations, instead of “manipulating” his health.
Mikhail Saakashvili s lawyers decided to appeal to the ECHR after two separate courts, the Tbilisi City Court on February 6, and the Tbilisi Court of Appeals on March 2, refused to postpone his imprisonment on health grounds
Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Sunday called the fact of Viola von Cramon, a member of the European Parliament, joining a rally organised in Tbilisi by a domestic political party on Saturday “unacceptable”, adding it “once again” showed her “attitude towards the Georgian state”.
Chairman of the United National Movement (UNM) opposition party Levan Khabeishvili has called on other members of this party to gather at its central office in Tbilisi on Monday evening to draw up a plan of action to secure the release of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili from custody.
