BUCARAMANGA, Colombia (AP) On the north coast of Colombia there is anxiety over the return to the South American country of one of the most feared former paramilitary commanders: Hernán Giraldo Serna. “El Patrón” (the boss) or “El Taladro” (the drill, as he became known for sexually abusing girls in the area) stepped on Colombian soil Monday after finishing a 16-year sentence in a U.S. prison for drug trafficking earlier this month.
Giraldo, 74, was deported from the U.S. and immediately taken into custody by authorities in Colombia, where he is expected to serve time for crimes against humanity, including torture, forced displacement of people, sexual slavery and kidnapping, as well as drug trafficking.

BOGOTA (Reuters) - A former paramilitary boss accused of crimes including rape, torture and murder arrived in Colombia on Monday after the United States deported him, the Andean country s migration authorities said.
Hernan Giraldo, 72, was extradited to the United States from Colombia in 2008, where he served a 12-year sentence for drug trafficking offenses. He will have to answer for the crimes including forced disappearance, killings, torture, kidnapping, forced displacement, terrorism, rape, forced prostitution, human trafficking and theft, among others, Colombia s migration agency said in a statement.

Former right-wing paramilitary commander Hernan Giraldo, wanted in Colombia for numerous massacres, disappearances and rapes, was arrested at Bogota airport Monday after being deported from the United States where he had served 12 years in prison for drug trafficking, officials said. Hernan Giraldo Serna, known also as the Lord of the Sierra, has just landed in Colombia, Colombia s immigration bureau told reporters.
Also known as The Boss, the much-feared paramilitary leader, now aged 72, was one of the leaders of the far-right militias who waged a ruthless struggle against left-wing guerillas in Colombia until their demobilization in 2006.
