In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, UKNow is sharing Taylor Nolan’s story. The piece was previously published in January marking the five-year anniversary of Taylor’s passing. Her mother, Taylora, is hopeful that by continuing to share her families’ experience, others will seek help in times of need.

At 6 o’clock on Jan. 8, 2019, Taylora was at home when she received a text message from her daughter Taylor that simply read, “I love you.” Taylora smiled and responded, “I love you too, baby.” Those were the last words they would say to each other. Taylor died by suicide that night one day before she was set to start the spring semester of her sophomore year.
Citing a need to put her own mental health first, Marion County Superintendent Taylora Schlosser has decided to take a leave of absence for the remainder of the school year.
