Town missed out on the chance to return to the top of the Championship following a 0-0 draw at home to Watford but are back to second in the table. The Blues came closest to scoring in the first half when Nathan Broadhead hit the post and Kieffer Moore saw a header from almost point-blank saved by Hornets keeper Daniel Bachmann but were less dominant after the break.
Skipper Sam Morsy’s deflected 93rd-minute goal saw the Blues grab a deserved point as the second-placed Blues and leaders Leicester City drew 1-1 at Portman Road. Stephy Mavididi gave the visitors a lead in the 24th minute which was a fair reflection of the first half but Town were the better side after the break and were well worth a share of the points.
Town fell to only their second Championship defeat of the season and first away from home in the league since January as goals at the start of each half from Darnell Furlong and Grady Diangana saw West Brom to victory at the Hawthorns in Blues manager Kieran McKenna’s 100th game in charge of the club. Furlong’s flicked header from a corner gave the Baggies the lead in the fifth minute, then Diangana added the second two minutes after the break with the Blues subsequently never looking like taking anything from the game.
Jack Taylor smashed a brilliant 25-yard winner as Town came from two goals behind to beat Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-2 at Portman Road to reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup for the first time in 13 years. Hwang Hee-Chan put Wolves in front in the fourth minute, then Toti made it 2-0 on the quarter-hour mark, before the Blues fought back, Omari Hutchinson pulling one back in the 28th minute, Freddie Ladapo levelling on 39 prior to Taylor completing a remarkable turnaround with his stunner 13 minutes into the second half.
Omari Hutchinson’s first goal for the Blues on his full league debut saw Town to a 1-0 victory over Southampton at St Mary’s and back up to second in the Championship. On-loan Chelsea man Hutchinson struck on the half hour as the Blues maintained their brilliant start to the season.
