This week, after months of presentations and debate, Halifax Regional Council unanimously passed its budget for the 2021/22 fiscal year. The grand gesture of the budget process exists to increase transparency around how Halifax spends its money. All told, HRM is gonna spend $833 million on services and programs; $178 million on building new stuff or restoring old stuff; and pay for it all with a combination of residential and commercial taxes, debt, revenue, COVID-relief money from the federal government, and a juicy chunk of money that came through Halifax’s hot-housing market and the deed transfer tax.

City announces annual Rock D Block event

DANVILLE, Va. — The City of Danville has been working to reduce violent crime since 2017. One Accord Connections and Mother’s Stronger Twogether (lead organizations) in partnership with youth leaders, many community businesses, government and non-profit partners are working together to host the 2021 annual “Rock D` Block” community event to curb violence by connecting teens to existing opportunities in the community. Qonell Totten, founder of One Accord Connections, is the chair of the planning committee. “I love my city and will do all that I can to help young people in my community be successful. We invite everyone to join us supporting the event,” said Totten.
