Sudan’s ruling junta released 14 detainees from various prisons and detention centres in Sudan on Monday, the first day of Eid El Fitr, the three-day Muslim festival that marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.
The authorities released Wajdi Saleh, the leader of the Empowerment Removal Committee (ERC) yesterday, as well as Tayeb Othman, Babiker Faisal, Mohammed Saati, and Mohammed El Faki. The ERC leader’s bail was set at 15 million Sudanese Pounds (SDG).
Authorities detained three members of Sudan’s Empowerment Removal Committee (ERC), following a breach of trust reported against them by the Ministry of Finance. The ERC leader, Wajdi Saleh, an outspoken voice and supporter of the dismantlement of the ousted Al Bashir regime, was detained alongside former Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Khaled Omar Yousef. Also, among the detained was the Secretary General of the ERC, Tayeb Othman Yousef.
