Know that for some early filers, there have been reports that the average wait time for a tax refund has been roughly six weeks to eight weeks, which is far longer than the typical wait time of three weeks or less.
Tax season is here for most Americans and that means that millions of financially struggling individuals may be in line for much-needed cash refunds.
But with new codes to deal with and more than a hundred sixty million coronavirusstimulus checks being sent out by the Internal Revenue Service, there is a high likelihood that the processing of tax returns and the associated refund deliveries will be delayed.

The IRS has a lot of due payments prepared for eligible Americans. Between the third stimulus checks and modified tax rebates, new procedures and systems have taken place for the 2021 tax season. It could get confusing when monitoring all these payments while waiting for them to arrive on your doorstep.
Luckily, IRS has a few online tools you can use.

You can check income tax refund status on the National Securities Depository Ltd (NSDL) website, as well as on the Income-tax department’s e-filing portal. ITR successfully processed but tax refund failed? Do this 
New Delhi: From the day of completion of processing of ITR by the Centralized Processing Centre (CPC), tax refunds are received within 20-45 days normally. A taxpayer is eligible to receive an income tax refund if there is more tax pain to the government than actual tax liability. This usually happens when the advance tax, self-assessment tax paid, and/or TDS deducted from the taxpayer is higher than the total tax liability of a taxpayer.

The income tax department has also introduced a new initiative called, Jhatpat Processing to smoothen the ITR filing experience for taxpayers. Income tax refund delayed? These mistakes could be the reason 
New Delhi: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) informed on Wednesday that it has issued refunds worth Rs 1,73,139 crore to more than 15.7 million taxpayers from 1 April 2020 to 11 January 2021. Income tax refunds of Rs 57,139 crore have been issued in 15,455,577 cases and corporate tax refunds of Rs 1,15,999 crore have been issued in 210,150 cases.
However, many taxpayers have been complaining on social media that they filed income tax returns (ITRs) around 4-5 months ago but are yet to get refunds. While some taxpayers are getting refunds within a week’s time, there are many who have not received theirs even after months.
