supported it then voted against it. senator lott, what happened? what happened there, democrats dwidn t want to vote for it because it would control spending. republicans didn t want to vote for it because it might lead to tax increases. yeah, in the end we are going to have to find a way to control the growth of entitlement spending. everybody gets nervous you re talking medicare, medicaid, social security, food stampsish all these so-called entitlement programs. we are going to have to find some ways to raise initial revenue. that s not my preference but that s the conundrum. only way you can ever deal with something like, this the president will set up a commission. john was co-chairman of a commission that had good proposals. because it did tough things in tax area it never got considered. the only way you ever get something like this to work is if it has statutory legislation that makes it happen. if you can t even get the senate to agree on this
those little bits of tax information that we got from him, his tax cut, tax reform proposals would benefit him to the tune of tens of millions of dollars, even just in that one year. one of the many reasons of the modern tradition has become what it is is that these people are legislating in the tax area and everyone wants to know, okay, how does it affect the president. now that he s broken that tradition, how do we get it back? i think just by having another president. i think that s all it takes to get almost all of these traditions back. just another president. thanks, rachel. we are watching the special election in georgia tonight to see if the democrats can win a republican seat. it s been republican for 38 years in georgia. that republican district is now being led tonight in the returns by the democrat. we re joined now by kasie hunt
