BUCYRUS - In the May 4 primary election, there s just one race on the ballot in Crawford County: Republican voters in the city s First Ward will choose their candidate for a seat on Bucyrus City Council.
For 24 years, the seat has been held by Bruce Truka, who announced early this year that he would not seek another term.
First Ward Republicans will nominate either Brenton Potter, 30, 902 Maple St., or Tracey Price, 54, 1019 Reid St., for a spot on the fall ballot. No Democrat filed in the race, but during Tuesday s regular council meeting, Justin Scenters, 823 E. Warren St., told council members he intends to file as an independent candidate.
BUCYRUS - While the Bucyrus Bicentennial Commission s 10-foot-long bratwurst sandwich is getting dressed for its big debut on May 1, how about a few drinks?
The commission will offer a mixology class later this month, sponsored by the Bucyrus Underground Speakeasy and Templeton Distillery of Templeton, Iowa, said Kelli Patterson, commission chairman.
Templeton Rye was a popular whiskey in the Prohibition-era, Patterson said, so a member of the Bicentennial Commission reached out to a company representative. He s very excited about the fact that Bucyrus actually has a speakeasy, she said.
A Templeton and speakeasy collaboration
Ultimately, the speakeasy and Templeton agreed to collaborate on sponsoring a mixology class, which will be offered via Zoom at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 27. Participants will learn how to make three cocktails Midway to Manhattan, Old-Fashioned Bucyrus and Mobster Mule.
