KUNR, Partner Organizations Win Three Regional Murrow Awards
The Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards are decided by judges for the Radio Television Digital News Association. The contest honors “outstanding achievements in broadcast and digital journalism” according to the RTDNA website. Here are the categories KUNR and partner organizations won in the small market radio division for work aired and published in 2020:
Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for bilingual pandemic coverage produced by KUNR,
This Is Reno. Contributors include Andrew Mendez, Stephanie Serrano, Natalie Van Hoozer and Lesly Virgen-Mariscal. Jenny Manrique served as a bilingual translator and editor. Tatiana Ramirez provided event support. Crystal Willis served as digital editor. Michelle Billman and Claudia Cruz served as managing editors.
Events and Community Engagement Coordinator
Tatiana Ramirez is KUNR’s first events and community engagement coordinator, a position where she engages and creates connections with the community, finds pressing issues and develops events to help alleviate them.
Tatiana is originally from San Francisco, but for most of her life, she has lived in Sparks, Nevada. She graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, where she majored in journalism and minored in Spanish.
Before coming to KUNR, she was a recipient of the Achievement of Beyond Obstacles Scholarship for three consecutive years. She was also a member of the university women’s rugby team, where she played for two years, and in both years, the team was ranked second in their division.
