Image: Avantium Avantium has this week launched its ‘Chain Reaction 2030’ plan that revamps principles listed in a sustainability manifesto that the company published last year. Chain Reaction 2030 commits the company to reach net-zero carbon emissions across its own operations in the next nine years. By 2025, Avantium will send zero non-hazardous waste to landfill or to be incinerated, and by 2023, all Avantium plants will have achieved ISO45001 certification.

Retailer John Lewis, which also runs Waitrose, said it had conducted more than 45,700 government-supported tests, with fewer than 1% of results returning positive. This had led it to save 6,643 working days for 2,286 employees, it said. Meanwhile, Tata Steel said daily tests had helped avoid production pauses at its Port Talbot, South Wales, plant, which had saved it hundreds of thousands of pounds.
