[scattered laughter] is this cancel cultured dung making people hold their tongue? it seems unclaimed for fear of being shamed. a new survey, my favorite kind, found that american adults self silence likely because they re worried about being canceled. that is skewing our understanding about society really feels about hot button issues. for example, 60% of adults privately support parents having a bigger say in their kids education compared to 52% who would it publicly. some parents won t even speak up on behalf of their kids, and it s for fear of being ostracized. or getting tasered for asking where the star of the girls swing team wears a jockstrap. [scattered laughter] meanwhile, 59% publicly agree that masks were effective against covid but 47% agreed privately. but they all agreed that masks really help when you are
alone. every time they do something, they re afraid they re going to be destroyed, their pension is going to be taken away, they ll be fired, they ll be put in jail. let them do their job. give them back the respect that they deserve. as you might imagine, those words, which were well received by the audience, might land quite differently for many people, especially in law enforcement, in light of what they experienced on january 67th as trump supporters violently assaulted police, including a d.c. police officers who was badly beaten, tasered and subsequently suffered post traumatic stress. when you hear the former president say give police, quote, back the respect that they deserve, i m wondering what went through your mind. just listening to the speech,
the reality is this is a political vote for many of us. i m going to vote my district. my district wants me to object to the states that get bicameral objections. and that s how i m going to vote. do i like it? no. joining us now, cnn law enforcement analyst michael fanone. he was beaten, tasered, and suffered traumatic brain injury and later a heart attack defending the capitol. you hear those comments from republican lawmakers before and after the insurrection, particularly kevin mccarthy who is now against the select committee. so, when you hear that now, how does that make you feel? well, i mean, i agreed with kevin mccarthy, that, you know, uttered those words i think it was what on january 11th. obviously, you know, i ve talked about it many times.
another parent was tasered. it s been over 48 hours since this horrific shooting happened and we definitely have a lot more questions than answers. i feel like we are not getting the whole story here. law enforcement, everybody involved needs to be more upfront. we need to know what happened. because it looks like a lot went wrong. here now, chad ayers, former assistant swat team commander and michael julian, active shooter survival structure. instructor: chad in terms of thr protocol from what i understand waiting an hour is not it. aren t you supposed to run right toward the fire and eliminate the shooter as fast as humanly possible? you are exactly right, jesse. that s how we train is the moment that call comes out, you don t wait on your backup. you go straight there. if you can t get through the front door, you drive your patrol car through the front door. you have to get there.
