The Tripura Rejyo Chakma Samajik Parishad said the two families who converted to Christianity were not ostracised but automatically failed to belong to the community after converting to another religion.
"India is a secular country and everybody has the fundamental right to choose his own religion," the Tripura High Court said while reprimanding certain Chakma committees for encouraging a boycott of Christian converts.

The two families had approached the high court after purportedly facing discrimination from members of their own tribe. The petitioners said social embargoes placed against them have put their lives and subsistence at stake.
