A part of Tartu s Vabaduse puiestee will once again be made into a Car-free Avenue from July 9-August 8. The popular initiative from last year will see improvements and additions made to its cultural program and activities, the city announced. Autovabaduse (Car-free) puiestee was one of the more memorable events from last summer. We decided to bring it back this year so that the people of Tartu and our visitors could spend quality time in the city center. This year, Autovabaduse puiestee will be extended to the nearby park and the themes of the month-long event are urban space and environment, Mayor of Tartu Urmas Klaas said.
The comprehensive plan for the City of Tartu 2040+ went on public display this week and can be viewed until May 20. The council is waiting for feedback from residents.
Mayor of Tartu Urmas Klaas (Reform) invites all residents of Tartu to actively join in the discussion regarding the comprehensive plan. This is Tartu s most important development document, in which we will be setting the city s spatial development directions for the next couple of decades, he said.
The main task of the new comprehensive plan is to connect the Tähtvere area, which joined Tartu during the course of administrative reform, with the city. However, many other topics have also been specified in the plan, and all parts of the comprehensive plan are open for discussion.
Tartu Vaccination Center in A. Le Coq sports center will open on April 27 when the vaccination team from Tartu University Hospital will move in.
Initially, vaccinations will be given to target groups before mass vaccinations start in May. Second doses will also be administered at the center. Vaccination will be carried out by nurses from the hospital and standard post-vaccination monitoring has been organized by the Tartu Ambulance Service.
The center has been ready for use since the start of April and Mayor of Tartu Urmas Klaas (Reform) said he is pleased it can finally open.
Dr. Andres Kotsar, head of the Tartu University Hospital, said: Initially, the vaccination volumes will be smaller than planned, but as soon as a sufficient number of vaccine doses arrive, the vaccination team will be ready to increase its workload.
