Work on renewing the permanent exhibition at the Tartu City Museum was originally due to be completed in time for 2024, Tartu's year as European Capital of Culture. However, now the city has postponed the renewal for an unspecified period of time, citing a lack of available funds. The proposed construction of a new cultural center in the heart of Tartu, which is estimated to cost €90 million, remains firmly in the city's plans.
Sustainability is often seen as a binary concept – you either live a completely 'green' lifestyle or you don't. At first glance it might seem that the only way to be utterly sustainable is to live a very modest life which involves eating only the local foods, never driving a car, having very few clothes and other items, etc. But would this kind of thinking also mean that participating in culture is a vanity that uses earth's resources irresponsibly? European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 is creating an example of how sustainable culture management can be done, Triin Pikk writes.
Lõuna-Eesti koos Tartuga on Euroopa kultuuripealinn 2024 ning selles programmis soovib Setomaa kaasa lüüa nii vanadele kalendripühadele toetuvate sündmustega kui kohapealse militaarajalooga. Ideid on idanemas veelgi.

Jaan Ulst, the leader of Tartu 2024 volunteers, said: The hosts take care of the comprehensive well-being of the visiting foreign guest. In this role, it is beneficial to know your home area in order to work as a guide. The information staff will help all visitors find solutions to various problems and they have to know the event programme inside out. Vo
