secrets. right here tomorrow night. and irson cooper starts right now. friends of george zimmerman testify. a witness for the defense. a big ruling from the bench. good evening. welcome to another special report, self-defense or murder, the george zimmerman trial. the judge this afternoon allowing attorneys for george zimmerman to introduce evidence that trayvon martin had thc in his system, the active ingredient in marijuana when he died. how significant that is remains to be seen. we ll talk about that in the hour ahead. prosecutors fought hard to keep the evidence out, calling it a back doorway of tarnishing trayvon martin s character in the eyes of the jury. zimmerman s drug use has always come up showing that he was on anxiety and sleep medications on the night of the shooting.
tarnishing trayvon martin s character in front of the jury. zimmerman s drug use has also come up. there has yet to be a ruling on his use of sleep medication. it was a day of just significant surprises again. and one of the questions that had been asked really to the defense team was, were they going to call tracy martin, trayvon s father. if you remember, it had been reported that tracy martin when he heard the 911 call with those terrible screams, he had told authorities that he did not hear his son, and in fact they brought two testimonials that were brought on by the investigators who said, yeah, that s what he told us, we played it and he said he didn t hear his son. then tracy martin comes to the stand called by the defense. let s listen to how the day went.
and may be ruled inadmissible for the trial. this is some of what they say. on the 18th of february 2011 a text from trayvon martin s phone asks you got a gun? on the same day his cell phone received the following message. you want a bnt 22 revolver? there s another text that alludes to difficulties he was having at home. my mom just told me i got to move with my dad he wrote on november the 22nd 2011. she just kicked me out. those messages were sent a whole year before trayvon martin was shot on the night of february the 26th 2012. which, therefore, raises this important question. what do they have to do with trayvon martin s death? has this thing got anything to do with the crime? or is this really all about tarnishing that young man s character just in time for the trial? let us know what you think by either tweeting us @bashirlive or by writing your thoughts on our facebook page. we posed the question earlier
