today we heard him talk about the fact that mexico called to begin negotiations. one of the other questions for republicans here are what are the terms by which the president would be satisfied with mexico taking action. of course, deals with his concerns about immigration, but there are so many broader implications. let s take a listen to part of what the president said at that joint news conference with british prime minister theresa may today to give you a sense of where his thinking is right now. what do you think of republicans who say that they may take action to block you imposing those tariffs? i don t think they ll do that. f if they do, it s foolish. there s nothing more than important than borders. mexico shouldn t allow millions of people to try and enter our country. they could stop it very quickly. and i think they will. if they won t, we re going to put tariffs on. reporter: there is a growing concern here of what steps could republicans take and certainly

if we do something to try to blow up mexico s economy it s going to cause more people to try to come to the united states, not fewer. so i think this is just this is a mix of policy in which we re going to tax the american people, harm the farmers, harm the manufacturers and consumers here in an effort to try to do something that s backfiring. i mean, mark, what i m curious about you say he doesn t want to put the tariffs on. i know he doesn t want to, but if they don t stop immigration in the next few weeks like you said, which they re not going to do, then he has to back off, right, and he s going to be outed as a bluffer, and in fact he s done this before. here he is. mexico is going to have to do something, otherwise i m closing the border. i ll just close the border. north korea best not make anymore threats to the united states. they will be met with fire and fury like the world has never
