The United States Board on Books for Young People has created a list of outstanding books from around the world in 2024. Two Ukrainian publications were included in the list: Yellow Butterfly by Oleksandr Shatokhin and Who Will Make the Snow? by Marjana Prokhasko and Taras Prokhasko.
From reminiscing about a less technological past to an intriguing story of a family of moles, these books are great reads for the post-Christmas holidays.
One of the key insights I’ve gained about myself during this war has been that I held onto preconceived notions not only about foreigners but my fellow Ukrainian citizens. This has led to literary readings in front-line cities, meetings with members of the military and civilians, master classes for teenagers in Avdiivka, and a year of filming in the front-line city of Krasnohorivka in Donetsk Oblast. At the beginning of November, I embarked on a literary tour of southern Ukraine that was organized by the Chernivtsi-based publisher Meridian Czernowitz.
