“A weekend
of words, circus and cabaret set to turn up the heat in
Taranaki”
With nearly 40 events spread across four
days and nights, New Plymouth will generate a buzz around
Taranaki and further afield this winter as the region lives
up to its reputation as a festival province like no other
between 29 July and 1 August.
The collaboration
between the Right Royal Cabaret Fest and Festival of Words
will see New Zealand s leading cabaret artists, comedians,
authors and acclaimed guest speakers to perform at venues
throughout the district, including TSB Showplace, NPDC s

Significantly, in this edition, data indicates that Taranaki is once again ranked as having the highest GDP per capita in Aotearoa.

The Winter 2021 edition of Taranaki Trends, produced by
Venture Taranaki, explores how our regional economy is
tracking, including some of the medium-term impacts from the
COVID-19 pandemic, a year on from the Level 4 lockdown in
2020; particularly around employment, construction, house
sales, retail spend and the visitor
market.
Significantly, in this edition, data indicates
that Taranaki is once again ranked as having the highest GDP
per capita in Aotearoa.
In 2020, Taranaki contributed
$9.5 billion towards the national GDP of $323 billion. Our
GDP contribution is driven by our high-productivity energy
and food/agriculture industries. The latest data also

Taranaki garden set up for generations to come
Leo and Liz Bennett have packed four decades of gardening into weekends. Their restful country garden south of New Plymouth is one that others could replicate, they insist. All that’s needed is some key ingredients like land, existing knowledge or a heritage of gardening, plenty of plants and perseverance. As they talk to people visiting their 2.8ha property, Creekside Garden, during Taranaki Garden Festival time they downplay their achievements. “Our garden is something that could be built by the average couple on weekends,” says retired electrical and instrument technician Leo.
