good morning. welcome to mornings on 2. it s wednesday, january 18th. we begin with an update on developing news in contra costa county. firefighters are on the scene of a house fire. the fire broke out about an hour ago, on green bay drive in walnut creek. just a few minutes ago, ktvu talked to the homeowner and is everyone okay, claudine? reporter: everyone is okay. they all made it out safely, but look at their house behind me. the major part of the damage area is the garage, and you can see inside the garage is what is left of a car still sitting in there. the three cars in the driveway also damaged heavily by this fire. it started about 5:00 this morning. the homeowner i just talked to him, is out safely. he and his family all made it out. he told me it was the sound of the fire that woke him up. it was a combo of things, lot of noise, things crackling and popping. got up and saw the fire coming out of the garage, so got everybody out. it was going very good, and
and starting today, victims of last monthly s huge fire in berkeley can start applying for low interest loans. ktvu s craig death slow in berkeley to explain how a declaration by the federal government is making this possible. good morning, kraig. reporter: good morning, tori. this is the problem right here, this building burned on november 18th, and you can see that clearly the people living in the building re going to be eligible for those loans but the first floor actually faces telegraph avenue, and the bottom floor many of those places are occupied by businesses, and the owners of course will be among the first in line for loans. many of the tenants at that building are students at cal. yesterday the state declared the area a disaster zone and that makes some people down here eligible for those loans. among those people, students and business owners eligible for the small business administration loans. tenants are eligible for 30- year loans, up to $40,000. businesses
good morning! welcome to mornings on 2. it is friday, december 2. we begin with strong winds still causing problems around the bay area. ktvu s claudine wong has been out all morning looking for damage. she s live in oakland, where a tree is right on top of a house. good morning, claudine. reporter: good morning, we re in ascot in the oakland hills. this tree coming down right out of their yard on to the roof of the home. you can see there is damage to the roof, and it s going to take awhile to get this cleaned up and taken care of. we re told the family did not spend the night here last night, obviously. there s structural concerns, they ll have to deal with. this is just one of many spots we ve seen this morning where there is going to be clean-up this morning. i talked to a man who runs a tree service and a cleaning company, and he says look, he s been around surveying all the damage, he has seen a couple of situations where there are trees in homes and he is going aroun
good morning to you! welcome to mornings on 2. it is thursday, december 1. topping our news, two people have been critically injured in an early morning fire in san francisco. it started a few hours ago in the city s mission district. ktvu s tara moriarity joins us live from the scene. any word on how the fire started? reporter: we don t know that yet, but we do know more information about some of the dramatic rescues that firefighters made this morning. i spoke to one, he carried a man out the front door. he had tried to jump and then cut himself on some glass and then another firefighter was able to take a woman down the ladder. she couldn t breathe so he was able to give her his mask. now, four people were injured in this fire, two of them remaining critical with severe burns. flames broke out on the top floor of a at 4:30 this morning. within an hour firefighters had everything under control. more than a dozen residents are out of their homes, located on 24th between
it happened around 6:00 last night at seventh and willow streets near interstate 880, near a van promoting a musician. kraig debro has been on the story all morning and joins us live to explain why information on this shooting is so hard to come by. kraig. reporter: tori, the two institutions involved aren t releasing much information. the hospital says it won t say anything about the one-year-old who was shot in the head and the police have not returned our calls except to say there will be a news conference in one hour from now. however, the video you re about to see tells a major part of the story. the surveillance video shows three men turn the corner and then turn their guns on people in a liquor store parking lot at seventh and willow in west oakland. some of those people defended themselves and returned fire. minutes before 6:00, police say neighbors called to report an argument. it was fairly large gun battle as far as we could tell, multiple casings, and i can t
