‘Private sector must help to end edible oil scarcity’
THE government has challenged the private sector to venture into cultivation of edible oil-producing crops and processing of the same to end the perennial shortage and save billions spent on importation of the essential product.

To that end, the government says it is ready to engage willing investors in talks aimed at reducing costs of investment in this sub-sector.
Hussein Bashe, Deputy Minister for Agriculture, told the National Assembly here yesterday that investment by private sector players in edible oil production can help to plug the gap of 365,000 metric tonnes that are imported annually.
