Shahjahan Ali, who was the presiding officer at Bheramara Pilot Model High School in Kushtia, told the court yesterday that he and his family members were scared of police. During the polls on January 16, Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohsin Hasan was talking to Shahjahan about allegations of voter fraud at the school, when Superintendent of Police SM Tanvir Arafath and several other police officers interrupted the conversation and asked Mohsin him to leave, according to complaints the latter had made.

He, however, could not provide details on the issue instantly. According to the media reports, Judicial Magistrate Mohsin Hasan entered the polling centre at Bheramara Pilot Model High School in Kushtia upon receiving allegation of irregularities from a voter during the municipality election on January 16. He saw some people along with the polling agents gathered at the centre. While the judicial magistrate was asking the presiding officer of the polling centre about it, SP Tanvir Arafath along with Assistant SP Mostafizur Rahman and their forces appeared there and called the presiding officer. Even after the Judicial magistrate introduced himself, SP Tanvir Arafath questioned why he had entered the polling station and also asked him to leave, according to the media reports.

Magistrate brings allegation of misconduct against Kushtia SP Star Online Report Star Online Report A judicial magistrate of Kushtia has filed a complaint, bringing allegation of misconduct against Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kushtia SM Tanvir Arafath.  A copy of the complaint lodged by Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohsin Hasan of Kushtia Judicial Magistrate Court with the Election Commission on January 17 has been sent to the Registrar General s Office of the Supreme Court for necessary action. Registrar General of the Supreme Court Md Ali Akbar confirmed that his office received the copy last night, reports our Kushtia correspondent. Copies of the complaint have also been sent to the law and home ministries and the office of Inspector General of Police.

The action of Superintendent of Police of Kushtia SM Tanvir Arafath cannot be taken lightly as he has not only committed serious contempt of court but has also tarnished the image of the judiciary as a whole with contemptuous remarks, behaviour and attitude, the HC said in a suo moto (voluntary) order.

SM Tanvir Arafath s behaviour with Judicial Magistrate Mohsin Hasan has also tarnished the image of the judiciary as a whole, the court said. The observations came amid allegations that the SP misbehaved with the judicial magistrate in Bheramara, Kushita, during the municipality election on January 16. The action of the superintendent of police, Kushtia, namely, SM Tanvir Arafath cannot be taken lightly as he has not only committed serious contempt of court, but has also tarnished the image of the judiciary as a whole with his contemptuous remarks, behaviour and attitude, the HC said.
