The No. 1 seed Texas Longhorns got off to a rough start in the Big 12 Tournament on Wednesday in Oklahoma City, falling to the No. 8 seed West Virginia Mountaineers 5-1 to set up an elimination game at 12:30 p.m. Central on ESPNU.
Texas will face the loser of No. 4 seed Oklahoma State and No. 5 seed Oklahoma.
Facing West Virginia’s No. 1 starter Jackson Wolf for the second time in less than a week, Texas only managed five hits and five walks as Wolf struck out seven and pitched the first complete game for the Mountaineers this season. AT 6’7 and with a low release point, Wolf was able to confound Texas hitters with a fastball that never reached much above 90 miles per hour.

For those who missed yesterday’s action, this YouTube channel and many like it post “highlights” consisting of the end of each plate appearance. No. 6 Texas grinds past Texas State in 4-1 victory

The No. 6 Texas Longhorns (36-11) remained undefeated at home in midweek games to set up the massive Cowtown Showdown this weekend against No. 3 TCU Horned Frogs by beating the Texas State Bobcats 4-1 at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Tuesday.
It was hardly the type of dominating performance that the Longhorns turned in throughout most of the midweek games this season, but five pitchers combined to allow only three hits and a single earned run on a home run given up by right-hander Drew Shifflet.
Left-hander Lucas Gordon went three innings with one hit allowed and zero walks in his first career start, right-hander Cole Quintanilla grabbed his fourth win of the season by pitching two perfect innings with three strikeouts, right-hander Tanner Witt struck out all three batters he faced, and right-hander Aaron Nixon earned his sixth save working the ninth inning.

On an unseasonably cool day in Austin with the wind blowing in and gusting up to 20 miles an hour, some well-hit balls for the No. 3 Texas Longhorns were kept in the park, including three by third baseman Cam Williams, but the offense came through late with enough runs to win as right-hander Tristan Stevens pitched extraordinarily well in the 3-1 victory over the Abilene Christian Wildcats on Saturday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The 12th straight win for the Longhorns was much more difficult than the 18-0 stomping put on the Wildcats on Friday, but Texas head coach David Pierce expected that coming into the game.
