we have new information this morning in the search for three little boys who disappeared in michigan. the children s father has been charged now in the case. now police are saying it s unlikely the boys will be found alive. brad wheelis joining us with the latest. good morning, brad. reporter: good morning, rob and vinita. investigators have been telling people in the three boys southern michigan hometown to expect the worst. as their father was taken into custody. john skelton is charged with kidnapping his three sons last week. john skelton was released from the mental health facility and immediately placed in custody by agents of the toledo office of the fbi. warrants were issued for three counts of parental kidnapping. skelton s being held in a jail across the state line in ohio until he s extradited back to michigan. 9-year-old andrew, 7-year-old alexander and 5-year-old tanner skelton have not been seen since thanksgiving. when they were with their father in morenci, mic
whatever sam s troubles, valerie burd kept him from harming others. so this small town, grieving a tragic loss, is also giving thanks. chris bury, abc news, marinette, wisconsin. and there is grim news in the search for three missing michigan boys. the children s father, john skelton, has been charged with kidnapping. and police now say it s unlikely that the boys will be found alive. andrew, alexander, and tanner skelton were last seen thanksgiving day. police and volunteers continue to search northwest ohio for evidence in the case. in corvallis, oregon, jews and christians are expressing solidarity with their muslim neighbors. they all joined together at a candlelight vigil outside a mosque that was targeted by that arsonist. investigators say the fire may have been set in retaliation for the attempted bombing of a christmas tree lighting in portland last week. the suspect in that case sometimes worshipped at the burned mosque.
with kidnapping his three boys is fighting extradition from ohio. 39-year-old john skelton is in police custody under suicide watch and is being held on $3 million bond, 1 million for each son. he s charged with parental kidnapping. police say the key to finding alexander, andrew and tanner skelton is what their dad tells investigators. the boys disappeared on thanksgiving and hundreds of volunteers have resumed their search for those boys today. an ohio man is arrested accused of keeping a sex slave. 44-year-old william manis is charged with kidnapping and 18 counts of rape. one woman told police he kept her locked inside a closet for ten days. he told her he was going to sell her as a sex slave but instead decided to keep her as a sex pet. she escaped out a second floor window. a california couple hope someone will return the prize show dogs they brought to long beach for a national
unemployment insurance extensions, don t ask, don t tell repeal, tax cuts and s.t.a.r.t. all can be done in the next 18 days. yes. reporter: at least one senate democrat seems skeptical. an open microphone caught colorado s michael bennet griping the system is broken. it s all rigged. the whole conversation s rigged. the conversation, the fact that we don t get a discussion before the break about what we re going to do in the lame duck is just rigged. this stuff s rigged. reporter: president obama told republicans at the meeting that he should have reached out more to them over the previous two years. republicans who have opposed the president s domestic agenda lockstep offered no such mea culpa. congress, though, has already missed one deadline to act. they allowed benefits for the long-term unemployed to expire at midnight. the labor department estimates that 635,000 people will lose all benefits by the 11th of this month. another 1.6 million will lose benefits by
politics. the american people want us to focus on their jobs, not ours. republicans argue rich americans and small businesses use those tax breaks to create more jobs that in turn benefit the unemployed. but under the bush tax cuts, the nation has seen its slowest job creation since the end of world war ii. democrats push unemployment benefits as a safety net for america s workers and the quickest way to inject dollars nationwide. what about the fact that unemployment benefits pumped into the economy are an immediate benefit to the economy, immediately? no, they re not. unemployed people hire people. really, i didn t know that. and dems may use those tax cuts for the rich as leverage to get republicans to move on benefits for the poor. i think at the end of the day, nobody wants to see, certainly the president doesn t want to see taxes on those who make $250,000 or less go up at the end of this year. kelly mcdonnell is at capitol hill, and where do we stand on t
