Area test scores a little bit scary right now - Eastern Shore Post

The COVID-19 pandemic created large learning gaps for public-school students on the Eastern Shore, results from state standardized tests show. However, school systems in Accomack and Northampton counties are moving forward with plans to improve their scores on the Standards of Learning, or SOL, tests.

Accomack County Public Schools operations and management staff at Tuesday night’s school board meeting presented an overview of the school division’s 2022 safety audit and discussed next steps, such as coordinating with local law enforcement to hold active shooter drills.

Commencement season has nearly arrived as thousands of Delmarva high school students prepare to earn their diplomas.  The COVID-19 pandemic has caused disruptions to traditional graduation ceremonies, which include countless family members, packed gymnasiums and auditoriums and guest speakers.  Many school districts still plan to hold some type of in-person ceremony, but will scale back the capacity or move graduation locations to areas that allow proper social distancing.  Check out how each district will conduct its commencement.  Note: Plans for graduation ceremonies will be listed as each district provides information Wicomico County Wicomico County Public Schools announced that commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2021 for all four high schools will be held at Arthur W. As a handful of masked passengers stepped off the Courtney Thomas, one of the only boats still traveling to and from this remote island in the Chesapeake Bay, Susan Parks looked for the oxygen machine that was scheduled to arrive for her patients. The home-health aide could see it was not among the packages and mail being unloaded. The boat’s captain, Brett Thomas, had another reason to look somber as he stepped off his boat beneath a clear December sky.
