A lawyer and prominent indigene of Tangale, Mr Melah Ibrahim, in this interview with CHIMA AZUBUIKE explains causes of the recent crisis over the traditional stool of Tangale in Gombe State and the need to ensure fairness
is the cause of the Billiri crisis?
The crisis is as a result of Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s failure to approve the kingmakers’ election of the new Mai, who emerged with five votes out of the total nine. After two days of silence from the governor, women took to the streets of Billiri to express their displeasure, while calling on the governor to approve the appointment. On February 19, after three days of peaceful protest, it became violent after an altercation between a group of women and some boys around the Galadima’s palace.
