The government agreed to extend Convent Bukit Nanas’s (CBN) land lease for another 60 years.
A statement published by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said that Putrajaya recognized CBN’s century-long contributions to the nation and approved of the extension specifically for educational purposes.
The government hopes that the school will continue producing quality-educated individuals for the good of the country and remains on the Education Ministry’s Cluster School of Excellence list of top institutions.
Malaysians recently began a movement to “Save SMK Convent Bukit Nanas” after it became public that the school’s land lease was due to expire on 6 September 2021 and that its administration was challenging the government’s ruling not to renew the lease.
Malaysians banned together to liberate the century-old Convent Bukit Nanas (CBN) school in Kuala Lumpur.
An online petition to “Save SMK Convent Bukit Nanas” began with news of the government’s refusal to extend the school’s land lease – which expires on 6 September 2021 – to the school’s administration run by the Lady Superior of the Society of Saint Maur convent.

With the school board challenging the Federal Government’s decision in court, many like former minister Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, who herself is a CBN alumnus, request that the historic institution, which celebrated its 120th birthday in 2019, be honoured as a national heritage site.
Rafidah speaks out against corruption
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Cabinet minister Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz (
pix) has spoken out strongly against what she describes as “blatant abuse of power” that has led to so much corruption reported in the country.
“I never thought that our country would fall to these low levels. I have been in politics for 55 years now . never have I seen such blatant abuse of power,” she told
theSun.
She said in her early days as a politician, abuses were “aberrations whilst those responsible got caught and sent to jail”.
“Today, there seems to be no exception. How can they sleep soundly and have peace of mind and feed their families,” she asked in expressing utter disgust over such power abuse.
Integrity essential in selection of political appointees, as leaders need to be genuinely committed to serving nation Pix for representational purpose only.
PETALING JAYA: Although it may not be practical, given partisan considerations, it is good for political appointees to be knowledgeable in matters related to their positions.
For instance, Henry Paulson was chairman and chief executive officer of Goldman Sachs when he was tapped by President George W. Bush to head the Department of Treasury in 2006.
His background in financial matters made him an obvious choice for the position.
In Malaysia, the health minister in the Pakatan Harapan administration Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and his deputy Dr Lee Boon Chye, are experts in the medical field.

The one-year, nationwide programme is worth RM 2.04 million, and falls under Etiqa Cares, Etiqa s flagship corporate responsibility commitment towards healthy living.
This follows the successful completion of Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 of Etiqa s Free Mammogram Programme, where a total of RM 6.53 million was contributed towards free mammograms that benefitted 17,000 underprivileged women across Peninsular Malaysia. Eligible women from communities around Malaysia were transported to the NCSM Centre in Kuala Lumpur, or appointed hospitals for the free mammograms.
