According to a spokesperson, the system was looking to attract 200-300 students who had left its schools in favor of a home school option. The system wanted to get these students back to boost its funding from the state, which is based on enrollment.When COVID-19 hit, the school system said it was overwhelmed. The program they were creating for a few hundred suddenly had 5,000 students enrolled.
