In the past 24 hours, widespread rainfall hit various parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, prompting the state government to declare school closures. The India Meteorological Department forecasts additional precipitation, particularly heavy rain in isolated areas of Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram districts. Chennai, Tiruvallur, Ranipet, Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli districts, and Puducherry may also experience heavy rain.
Due to continuous downpour, schools were also shut across various districts in the state including Nagapattinam, Kilvelur Taluk, Villuppuram, and Cuddalore.
