DMK Chief M K Stalin s actor-turned-politician son Udayanidhi Stalin found place in a list of 173 candidates announced by DMK on Friday today for the upcoming Assembly election in Tamil Nadu, which is scheduled on April 6. Udayanidhi Stalin will make his electoral debut in this election. He will be contesting from Chepauk-Triplicane seat, which is a DMK bastion. Stalin will contest again from Kolathur. He will file the nomination on March 15 and embark on the next leg of the campaign. I Periasamy and his son I P Senthil Kumar is another father-son duo in the DMK s list of candidates. The ruling AIADMK s rival DMK joined hands with the Congress, the Left, MDMK, VCK and other smaller outfits for the upcoming polls.
Actor-turned politician Kamal Haasan would make his electoral debut by contesting from Coimbatore South constituency in the April 6 Tamil Nadu assembly elections. The Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) president made the announcement here on Friday, releasing the second list of his party s candidates. Remembering his late father Sreenivasan, Haasan expressed confidence that the people of his constituency would enable him to voice his views in the assembly by voting for him. My father s dream was I should become an IAS officer and then enter politics. Though I could not realise his dream (of becoming an IAS officer), my party comprises many (former) IAS officers. That is a proud moment for us, he told reporters.
