This will be the first election in decades when two charismatic leaders of Tamil Nadu politics J Jayalalithaa andM Karunanidhi will be missing in action. And this will also be the first election after the state bucked the long tradition of voting out the incumbent in 2016. AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran got a second term in 1984 and his political heir Jayalalithaa had the distinction of doing an encore after 32 years.

An official release from the Chief Electoral Officer said that Uber would also offer rides back to home for them. In collaboration with the Election Commission of India, Uber has announced concessions on its rides in Chennai, Tiruchirapalli and Coimbatore cities for the elderly (above 80 year of age) and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) from their home to respective polling stations on the day of polling on April 6.
Three of them Umar Bahadar, Nasarullah and Samiullah have been convicted for the first time since the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Lahore pronounced its verdict some time ago in the terror financing cases registered by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Punjab police. The other two JuD spokesperson Yahya Mujahid and senior leader Prof Zafar Iqbal had already been convicted for many years in other terror financing cases.
In the biggest city of Yangon, one group marched through the Insein district chanting and singing protest songs and cradling eggs bearing the slogan “Spring Revolution.” Many of the eggs also bore a drawing of the three-fingered salute, a symbol of resistance to the February 1 coup.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], April 4 (ANI): DMK youth wing secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin on Sunday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that nobody can lie like him.
Speaking during the roadshow in Mylapore Assembly constituency, Chennai, Stalin alleged that AIADMK tried to bribe voters but DMK cadres intervened and stopped it. Yesterday AIADMK tried to indulge in money distribution to voters but our cadres intervened and stopped it. In India, nobody can lie like him. I know how he lies. Suddenly, he banned old 500 and 1000 rupees notes. I still have one note with me now. Hundreds of people died tried to change old notes, he said.

From a strike rate of more than 70% in the 2006 assembly poll, the Congress’s strike rate had fallen below 10% in 2011 and was less than 20% in 2016. The low strike rate was one reason why the DMK was initially not willing to spare more than 20 seats.
