ANNUAL WATCHFIRE CANCELED AGAIN: The annual Memorial Day Weekend event known as Watchfire has been canceled at the New York State Fairgrounds for the second year in a row. The Vietnam Veterans of America Central New York Chapter 103 announced on its website that the 2021 Watchfire will not take place due to New York state Covid-19 guidelines. The annual watchfire draws thousands to Syracuse to honor U.S. soldiers and veterans on Memorial Day weekend. Tamica Barnett is a graduate of the Political Leadership Institute in Central New York. She also recently won a bid for the Syracuse City School District commission.
“I actually came here throughout the entire process. Just because I asked a lot of questions. So I would cross reference it with what I learned in the class,” said Barnett.
Her party provided support, too.
“This is the OCDC office. As you can see, all of our designated candidates are all over the walls. You learn a lot of information in the leadership classes. But you come here and this is where you actually apply it,” explained Barnett.
