The state of Florida has received more than $870 million from the federal government to make landlords whole and keep renters in their homes during the pandemic, and expects to receive a grand total of more than $1.56 billion as more money is distributed.
Itâs given out around 2 percent of what itâs gotten so far.
For the first time in about 15 months, starting at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, there will be no barrier to Florida evictions moving forward, barring last-minute action by Congress. Hundreds of thousands of Florida renters are estimated to be at risk of losing their homes, just as the delta variant is causing renewed apprehension among health experts.

DADE CITY â Several times in recent meetings, Pasco residents were adamant about wanting to address their elected county commissioners face to face to discuss everything from requiring masks to rezoning property.
Soon they will get their wish.
County administrator Dan Biles presented a plan to commissioners Tuesday to bring citizens back into the boardroom for meetings beginning on May 18. Without discussion, commissioners accepted the change in meeting participation rules, the decision coming just a day after Gov. Ron DeSantis signed an executive order ending all emergency orders adopted by local governments related to COVID-19 across the state.

Pasco County became one of first Tampa Bay counties to begin taking applications for low-income residents for federal rent assistance money Wednesday morning.
It reached capacity in less than two hours.
Another round should come soon in Pasco. Other bay-area counties are still preparing similar rental assistance programs with their shares of federal relief money. Polk County was also accepting applications Wednesday.
