State grants totaling more than $6 million have been awarded to projects to improve sewer and water systems in Carbon and Schuylkill counties, according to local state lawmakers.

Delays on Route 309 in Tamaqua were longer than usual this week because of a water main break on the north end of town which leaked water at a rate of about 1 mi.
The Tamaqua Area Water Authority announced Wednesday that because of work on a leaking water main, residents should boil their water before drinking it.
