Solicitor General Reyneck Matemba has been appointed as a public prosecutor for the business guru Thom Mpinganjira who is answering charges of attempting to bribe judges who were presiding over the presidential elections case.
The former Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General informed the court of his appointment by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) this morning as the case has resumed hearing.
However, Patrice Nkhono, lawyer for Mpinganjira has said the appointment of Matemba is unusual as ACB is independent.
According to Nkhono ACB has powers to prosecute the case according to the Corrupt Practices Act.
Nkhono further added that the DPP was not supposed to be involved because the law gives powers to the deputy manager general of ACB.
