People high on Aidilfitri mood despite ongoing MCO
May 12, 2021
KUALA LUMPUR – The air is alive with a festive mood as Muslims in the country are seen making last-minute shopping to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri tomorrow, although most of them will have to be content in celebrating the auspicious festivity away from their hometowns.
Bernama checks revealed that shoppers started to throng several morning markets and premises selling Aidilfitri goods as early as 7 am, while diligently adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOP) set to curb the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak.

At Chow Kit market, here, visitors were seen queueing before being allowed into the premises while being monitored by members of the People’s Volunteer Corp (RELA) and local authority’s enforcement team to ensure compliance with the SOP of the Movement Control Order (MCO) which is in force today.
GEORGE TOWN: Even with one extra day for business, Ramadan bazaar traders who must close from today still faced slow sales as more Malaysians stayed home for fear of the ongoing surge in Covid-19 cases.
A check at Taman Tun Sardon’s Ramadan bazaar yesterday found only a small crowd buying Ramadan delights, leaving traders disappointed by their sales before facing a three-day closure.
The government on Friday ordered 22 Ramadan bazaars nationwide to close for three days and out of this, the highest number – eight – are in Penang.
The closure was supposed to begin on Labour Day yesterday, but Penang’s city council allowed the traders one more day to sell and clear their perishables.

PETALING JAYA: At least 22 Ramadan bazaars nationwide have been ordered to close by the Housing and Local Government Ministry to contain the rise in Covid-19 cases.
The order for the closure was made by the local authorities after the Ministry received a report by the Hotspot Identification by Dynamic Engagement (HIDE) secretariat.
Ministry secretary-general Datuk Zainal Abidin Abu Hassan said the decision was made during the National Security Council special meeting on Wednesday.
