Covid-19: Andromeda cluster among 12 new clusters recorded Wednesday (March 17)

PUTRAJAYA: Three factory clusters in Selangor are among the contributors to the state s slight increase in cases on Wednesday (March 17). Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said one of the outbreaks, named the Subang Dua cluster, had 153 confirmed cases since March 16. The positive cases in this cluster were uncovered from a targeted screening exercise conducted on workers of a factory located at Jalan Subang 2 in Taman Perindustrian Subang. So far, 602 individuals have been tested and 153 are confirmed as Covid-19 positive, said Dr Noor Hisham in his daily Covid-19 press statement. Govt still in talks with Johnson & Johnson

PETALING JAYA: The Johnson & Johnson’s single dose vaccine may be too little and too late for Malaysia, and this is a concern currently being addressed by the government with the manufacturer, says Khairy Jamaluddin. The Science, Technology and Innovation Minister said the government is interested in the Johnson & Johnson vaccine because it is a single dose that is approved by the USA Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and has shown good efficacy against various Covid-19 variants, including the South African strain. “We are quite happy with the option, if we can get it. I think there are a lot of concerns on our part. First is the number of doses that are on offer from Johnson & Johnson. They are not offering us that many and that’s quite disappointing.
