The Transport Administration and construction company Nordecon have reached an agreement for the development of the 167-171 km Kärevere-Kardla section of the Tallinn-Tartu maantee near Tartu. The development s total cost will be €12.6 million plus VAT. The construction of the Kärevere-Kardla section will open the construction of the Tallinn-Tartu highway from the Tartu side, said Transport Administration head Kaido Padar. The highway section in question will also pass through a Natura 2000 nature and bird area, which will be compensated with two sub-road wildlife tunnels. One of the tunnels is also multi-functional, being a passage for wildlife in addition to it being a supplemental road to the highway.
