she ranks third on the house budget committee. thank you for joining us. we hope we got you at the top of the hour. thank you, tamron. what are your thoughts on the notion there s a dpeel in sight. it s a question of whether you have the bush tax cuts separate and deal with the other issues of entitlement and the fiscal issues the president wants to address as far as the debt ceiling later? i m very optimistic, tamron. i think the parties are talking and there s a lot of shuffles back and forth between the white house and congress. there are republican and democratic caucuses to deal with, but i see problem. the talks haven t broken down. this isn t a middle east standoff in any way. we actually have momentum. there are specific proposals on the website by the president. there have been proposals on the republican side. they re continuing to talk. i think it s all positive. where do you see progress specifically? we don t know the details of the conversation yesterday, but wher
accused of murdering the mother joann bain and daughter 14-year-old adrienne. the two girls, 12-year-old alexandria and sister khaliah are safe and unharmed. authorities say adam mayes believed he was the father of those two little girls. george holland is live in atlanta. if you could go over exactly xa what happened last night. let s talk about the two girls. both girls from what we ve read from these affidavits very likely knew their mother and older sister were killed. we know that they were found alive. we know they were sent to a memphis hospital where they are being treated. in fact, we heard from a federal investigator who tells us they are suffering from the experience of being out in the woods, from being kidnapped, they are suffering from dehydration and exhaustion but appear to be okay. that is first and foremost the condition of those girls. let s talk about adam mayes. he was found in a wooded area in union county, mississippi, in that guntown area that inve
pushed the panic button probably several months ago, they just haven t telegraphed to us yet. you have to look no further than a poll out in virginia that shows president obama has a 62% disapproval rating with independents in that state. that is devastating to him. remember, virginia was one of the states that he flipped back in 2008 to win the presidency. not just virginia, north carolina is another state that they re concerned about. then go out west to colorado, another state that they flipped, as well, back in 2008. and then there s the two big states, kyra. there s ohio and there is florida, as well. these are all states that he needs to win in 2012 in order to win a second term. you know, kyra, a lot of people don t think the president has the fire in the belly any more. i was talking to a democratic strategist this morning and what he said to me was very simply, instead of when you re selling the whole idea of the jobs bill, don t say pass the bill, say, yes we can. w
enrichment capacity, constructing a nuclear reactor. at some point you have to say, you know, if these talks haven t worked in eight years, maybe we should learn something from that. jenna: let s take a look at the year that has just gone by. how do you think our place as a world power has shifted over the last year? well, i think around the world both friends and adversaries alike have taken the measure of the obama administration, and i think they see a president who, basically, is not all that interested in american national security affairs. he s much more interested in restructuring our domestic economy and way of life. and i think particularly our adversaries have now built that lack of interest, basically, and the weakness that he s signaled in many respects, they ve built that into their calculations. so i think we re, we ve become more vulnerable in the past year, i think the pace of challenge to the united states will increase next year and the year after. jenna: that being
everybody s against us but we re forging ahead and we ll do this and nobody s going to stop us. it s going to be some pretty tough talks. what s unusual about the talks tomorrow is the subject of the talks haven t been outlined. neither side is going in knowing what they re going to talk about. the iranians said we re not going to talk about our enrichment program, which is the key issue everybody wants to talk about. sure. how productive tomorrow s meeting will be, we will have to see. i know you ve reported from the region so much. have you heard anybody ever predict a timeline for when iran will have a workable nuclear weapon? there have been all sorts of predictions for this. they ve said, you know, between 2012, 2015. i think what s happened recently is the iranians have really advanced with their nuclear program. down think they physically want a bomb today, but they want the breakout capability. they want to be able to go into production over a long weekend if necessary.
