Jeffery C. Becton will be featured guest in Talking Art in Maine: Intimate Conversations

.- Jeffery C. Becton, renowned pioneer in the field of digital montage photography, will join a host of prominent Maine artists, curators, and scholars who have been past guests of the ongoing series, Talking Art in Maine: Intimate Conversations, when he joins moderator Jane Dahmen onstage at the Lincoln Theatre. Event is scheduled to commence on Thursday, May 20th, at 7:00pm for a live, hourlong program at the historic Lincoln Theatre.
Becton, who has made his year round home and studio in Deer Isle, Maine since 1984, has been on the forefront of the digital revolution since the 1970s when he was a graduate student in the Graphics Design program at Yale University. Described by one art critic as perhaps the best colorist in the history of Maine art in any medium, Bectons work has been shown extensively throughout the state of Maine, New York, Florida

River Arts in Damariscotta invites artists to submit work to a juried show, “Land and Sea.” The deadline for entry is 4 p.m. Saturday, May 22, and the show is to run from May 26 to July 3.
The theme “Land and Sea” is open to personal interpretation by the artists and can include realistic as well as abstract works. All media including but not limited to painting, sculpture, photography, and fiber can be entered. Artists can enter two pieces with a size limit of 26 inches, including frame. Or artists can enter one larger piece with a size limit of 48 inches, including frame.

The West Harlem Art Fund will present their new exhibition WE ARE IN REACH on Governors Island in the historic district of Nolan Park. The show is open now through June 25, 2021 for the public. According to Savona Bailey-McClain, Executive Director of the West Harlem Art Fund, The past year allowed the world to reconnect to family, heritage, language and tradition in new ways and to appreciate those times even more. And as we look at human existence, it all began in Africa. WE ARE IN REACH looks at how those of African descent honor memory, philosophy and tradition.

As the curtain rose on “Nomadland” at Lincoln Theater March 19, Andrew Fenniman couldn’t have been happier. The sold out audience of 50, masked and socially distanced, was ready – despite the pandemic.
Despite the state’s 50% capacity for theaters, opera houses and the like, at this point during the pandemic, Fenniman said the theater will probably stay at 50 for quite some time, or maybe 60.
“We could have 125 people, but we want people to be safe, and to feel safe,” Fenniman said.
To that end, Fenniman oversaw the upgrading of the ventilation system. Air from the outside passes through the new disinfection filters of UV-C lights and bipolar ionization six times per hour. Inside air is replaced by outside air twice each hour.
