The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board meets Tuesday evening, and it is expected to address concerns about rising hate directed at Jewish students and staff, and accusations the board is not doing enough to respond.
They identified behaviour that ranged from a student making a Nazi salute to classroom conversations that seem to target Israel as responsible for all the problems in the Middle East.
As the Toronto District School Board grapples with at least six antisemitic incidents in just a month, experts say this type of behaviour appears to be on the rise in schools across Canada. Normalization of Nazi and anti-Jewish imagery online and in the news is seen as a possible culprit, along with a lack of Holocaust education.
