Freezing temperatures gripping the London region this week have prompted public-health officials to issue a cold weather alert and the city to activate a warming centre for people seeking relief.
The Middlesex-London Health Unit alert comes as Environment Canada calls for temperatures to drop Tuesday night to -19 C, feeling more like -22 overnight. That’ll be coupled with up to five centimetres of snow.

Temperatures were expected to dip even further Wednesday morning, with the wind chill making it feel as cold as -26 C before gradually rising throughout the day.
