Rainy season brings fungus to your landscape | From the extension

Rainy season is officially here. You will likely see mushrooms popping up in your landscape, they are not necessarily cause for concern. Not all fungus is bad. If you have mushrooms or suspect a fungal issue, determine if action is needed. There are several fungal pathogens that can cause harm to the plants in your landscapes. The two most common turf diseases that we see are Large Patch disease (aka Brown Patch disease) and Take-All Root Rot. Both diseases cause dead patches to appear in the lawn. Large patch affects zoysiagrass and St. Augustine grass. Patches are round with sunken centers and sometimes have orange margins. Take-All Root Rot is only an issue when excessive water is present. Symptoms start on the roots leading to light-green and yellow patches appearing in the lawn.
