Estonian Minister of Culture Anneli Ott announced on Tuesday that she is stepping down from her position because she is unable to implement the ideas needed for preserving the field of culture in the government led by Prime Minister Kaja Kallas.
Estonia has an exception for coronavirus vaccine booster doses. They have been made available to medical workers, teachers, social workers and people 65 or older for whom six months have passed from their second shot. At the same time, those administering third shots have no way of verifying whether people are eligible.
Sunday marked polling day of the 2021 local government council elections in Estonia. Preliminary results put voter turnout at 54.7 percent, with record 275,587 votes cast electronically between Monday and Saturday. People supported election coalitions in most of Estonia’s 79 local governments, with Center proving the most successful political party but losing its absolute majority in Tallinn.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen visited Tallinn on Tuesday to give Estonia’s recovery and resilience plan, pledging around one billion euros for investments and reforms by 2026, the green light.
