PUTRAJAYA (Jan 27): Malaysia’s first Covid-19 vaccine clinical trial began today in nine hospitals, involving some 3,000 volunteers, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said.
The Phase 3 clinical trial of the vaccine developed and sponsored by China s Institute of Medical Biology Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (IMBCAMS) is being carried out with the objective of assessing its safety and effectiveness against Covid-19 infection.
The nine hospitals participating in the trial, coordinated by the Ministry of Health s (MoH) Institute of Clinical Research (ICR), are the Ampang Hospital, Sarawak General Hospital, Penang Hospital, Seberang Jaya Hospital, Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Taiping Hospital, Sungai Buloh Hospital and Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital.

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 3,585 new Covid-19 cases amidst a growing number of patients who require intensive care and ventilators to breathe.
Leading indicators:
Patients in ICU: 280 ↑ (19 more than the previous day)
Intubated patients: 111 ↑ (10 more than the previous day)
Deaths: 11
The Klang Valley reported the most number of new cases (54.3 percent) followed by Johor (14.6 percent) and Sabah (8.6 percent).
In Selangor, 187 new cases were detected among individuals without symptoms and are not linked to existing clusters. This is relatively higher, considering that most states are reporting new cases in the double digits only.

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 3,631 new Covid-19 cases and 14 deaths.
The Klang Valley reported the most number of cases (48 percent) followed by Sabah (14.5 percent) and Johor (10.1 percent).
In Selangor, one in six new cases were detected among those with symptoms but were not linked to clusters or close contacts. Those with symptoms are more likely to spread Covid-19.
Malaysians make up 75.8 percent of total new cases while detainees account for 8.5 percent.

Intubated patients: 96↑ (two more than the previous day, new record)
