In a press release on Tuesday (March 16), the Taipei Fire Department said the eight-year-old Rush is a search-and-rescue dog certified by the International Search and Rescue Dog Organization (IRO) and that she has participated in missions following the 2016 earthquake in southern Taiwan and the 2018 Hualien earthquake. She is affectionate and extremely well-trained.

Several mountains in northern and central Taiwan yesterday had their first snow of the winter amid a cold wave, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said.
Lalashan (拉拉山) in Taoyuan, which ranges from 1,500m to 2,130m in altitude, had its first snowfall of the season at about 6am, the city’s tourism office said.
The Lalashan Forest Reserve (拉拉山自然保護區), home to more than 120 Formosan cypresses estimated to be more than 500 years old, was also covered with snow.
Ten of the 24 people who experienced carbon monoxide poisoning at a Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) swimming pool in Tainan on Thursday have been released from treatment, the Tainan Department of Health said yesterday.
Emergency services responded to reports at about 5pm on Thursday that more than one person at the YMCA pool on Gongyuan Road in the city’s North District (北) was feeling unwell, light-headed or had vomited.
Readings taken in the basement pool area showed a carbon monoxide level of 499 parts per million (ppm), far higher than the average indoor level of 0.5ppm to 5ppm.
