Search and rescue operations are continuing Sunday morning after a group of adults and students attending a nature camp were swept away by a flash flood in Shuangxi District, New Taipei City, Saturday afternoon. New Taipei City Fire Department.
Rescue efforts continued last night after several people had reportedly fallen into the Beishi River (北勢溪) in New Taipei City’s Hubaotan (虎豹潭) area.
At press time, two adults and four children remained missing, the New Taipei City Fire Department said.
The six were part of a group of naturalists organized by a local community, department officials said.
The group departed from the Hubaotan Old Trail (虎豹潭古道) in the afternoon and was on the way back when a downpour started, officials quoted the group’s leader, a teacher surnamed Su (蘇), as saying.
Seven participants fell into the river, they quoted Su as saying.

Taipei, June 4 (CNA) Heavy downpours brought by a plum rain front and the approaching Tropical Storm Choi-Wan caused severe flooding in many parts of Taipei on Friday afternoon.
Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) said the districts of Da an, Wenshan, Nangang, Neihu and Xinyi had already accumulated more than 100 mm of rainfall, and some had even seen over 200 mm of rain.
The city government said the downpours have caused knee-deep flooding in areas around Bojia Elementary School and Muzha Road in Wenshan District, as well as near Zhongxiao East Road in Xinyi District in the area surrounding the Zhongxiao fire station.
