Holidaymakers made nearly one million domestic trips across Cambodia during the second week of the month, which analysts say is markedly above average and part of an uptrend driven by the October 1 soft-launch of the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway and Water Festival events held in a number of provinces.
Preah Sihanouk province tallied 125,000 national and international visitors over the weekend of October 15-16, “more than 60,000” of which arrived on the former, according to the provincial administration.
Holidaymakers made nearly 1.26 million domestic trips nationwide during the three-day Pchum Ben Festival this year, representing an almost 90 per cent rise compared to the corresponding time last year, with Battambang, Siem Reap and Kep provinces receiving the most visitors, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
