Chinese Professional Baseball League (ä¸è¯è·æ£å¤§è¯ç, CPBL) announced Tuesday to forfeit from the Olympic Baseball Final Qualifier in consideration of the players’ health.
Due to the severe COVID-19 situation both domestically and internationally, CPBL has decided not to form a national team to compete in the final baseball qualifiers for the Summer Olympic Games.
The game was originally scheduled to be held at the Taichung International Baseball Stadium (èºä¸å¸æ´²éæ£çå ´) on June 16. However, as Taiwan’s local outbreak worsens, the World Baseball Softball Confederation (ä¸çæ£å£ç總æ, WBSC) announced to hold the final qualifying round in Mexico.
CPBL commissioner Tsai Chi-chang (è¡å ¶æ) said that considering the severity of the epidemic at home and abroad, the league must ensure the safety and well-being of all players and avoid burdening the medical system.

Taiwan’s professional baseball league (CPBL) yesterday said it will not form a national team to compete in the final baseball qualifiers to be held in Mexico for the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo due to a severe COVID-19 situation at home and abroad, while the Sports Administration and the national baseball association are to decide today whether to take over and form a national team.
The final qualifying round was originally scheduled to be held at the Taichung International Baseball Stadium on June 16.
Five national teams were to participate in the competition after China withdrew its team earlier this month Taiwan, Australia, the Netherlands, and two teams securing the second and third places in the Americas qualifiers, which are to begin on Tuesday next week.
The government has not decided whether the national baseball team should compete in the final qualifiers for the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, the Sports Administration said, adding that the health and safety of players would be the top priority.
The qualifying round, to be held in Mexico, was originally scheduled to be held at Taichung International Baseball Stadium, with six national teams, including Australia and the Netherlands, participating.
China withdrew its team earlier this month.

PULLY, Switzerland; 07 May 2021 The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) today confirmed that the Chinese Baseball Association (CBA) has withdrawn its national team from the WBSC Final Baseball Qualifier, a qualification tournament for the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The WBSC said that in light of all available information the final qualifier will feature only five teams, and that the game schedule will reflect this. The WBSC has acknowledged the decision of the CBA without any further course of action, said the WBSC. This decision is considered final, and all focus will remain on the five participating teams in the WBSC Baseball Final Qualifier.
