Drive to plant trees along major thoroughfares kicks off Karachi February 24, 2021 The Parks & Horticulture Department of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) kicked off the municipal body’s campaign to plant trees along five major thoroughfares of the city on Tuesday. The department said that in the first phase of the drive, trees will be planted along Sharea Faisal, Rashid Minhas Road, University Road, Malir Halt Road and the Korangi Industrial Area’s 8000 Road. Digging work has been started, while planting will begin next week. During the KMC’s ongoing campaign, 600 saplings have already been planted in Gulshan-e-Jinnah (Polo Ground) and 500 in the Moin Akhtar Park. Over 1,000 saplings were also planted during the Aman Exercise in the West Wharf area.

Marigold show draws thousands of visitors to Frere Hall Park Karachi January 23, 2021 It is highly unlikely to not be dazzled by beautiful arrangements of marigold flowers being displayed at the Frere Hall premises when you pass through Abdullah Haroon Road. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) Parks and Horticulture Department has adorned the British-colonial era Frere Hall with various colours of marigold flowers, as it is celebrating the city’s first marigold festival that will last till Sunday. The gardens of the Frere Hall are decked out in circles of orange and yellow marigold flowers, while the white ones are either delicately perched in the middle or at the boundary like white doves. These flowers are further circled with blue and white stones at which light is thrown after sunset.

Their life spanning only 100 days not only brings colours but also butterflies, bees and other insects to your garden,” said Tofiq Pasha Mooraj, senior horticulturist who had wonderfully decorated his stall with marigold flowers.

500 attend Karachi workshop promoting sustainable living

Karachi: Karachi’s Administrator Laeeq Ahmed said that the people of the city should make good use of their household organic waste for tree plantation and kitchen gardening to promote sustainable living in the provincial capital. A workshop in this regard was held at Sir Syed Park of Federal B Area of Karachi under the aegis of Parks and Horticulture Department of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). Over 500 citizens attended the workshop who were informed about the methods to use household organic waste as fertilizer for kitchen gardening. Noted horticulturist Toufeeq Pasha conducted the workshop. Director-General, Parks of KMC, Taha Saleem said on the occasion that such workshops would also be conducted in other neighbourhoods of the city to promote the methods of sustainable living among people of the city.
